From this morning’s Tampa Tribune
It’s very encouraging – it shows a good candidate with a good campaign and organization can win statewide,” she [Alex Sink] said, when asked if Obama’s win will affect her decision.
The Obama win in Florida certainly bolsters the party’s efforts here in the state, and like Alex says, will encourage strong Democratic candidates to run in tough races.
The general premise of the article is that although Obama won in Florida, it was due to his strong campaign in the state, rather than a strong party operation, meaning that the aftereffects will be small.
But, if you’re looking for another reason for Alex Sink- or any D to run for governor in 2010- DraftAlex has one word for you: redistricting. The Republican legislature drew the seats after the 2000 census- and created those seats to protect their majority. But, there’s another census in 2010- an opportunity to create districts that are more fair with serious potential to cut into Republican protected seats.Dan Gelber– a favorite here on DraftAlex makes that point,
We need a Democratic governor who can veto reapportionment plans, or we’re out of luck until 2020.”
